Third Card Rule

There are many dealer schools in Las Vegas to choose from, but our choice, especially when learning the Baccarat third card rule, is definitely Gold Star School of Gaming. At Gold Star, we break things into bite-sized pieces making them easy to learn.

Player and Banker each receive two cards and may receive a third cards based on the rules of the game.  If the Player or Banker shows natural 8 or 9, declare a winner immediately; there is no draw.  Otherwise, the following rules are in effect:

  1. (1) If Player has a total of 5 or less, he will draw.
  2. (2) The Banker will draw based on the Banker’s score and the Player’s 3rd card.
  3. (3) If the Player does not draw a card, the Banker will be held to the same rules as the Player and will draw when showing 5 or less.

The chart below shows when the banker will draw a third card.
