5% Commission

Many Las Vegas dealing schools offer Baccarat. When learning, students will definitely have to understand the 5% Baccarat commission rule.

The easiest way to take 5% commission is to cut the number in half and move the decimal one place.  So, to calculate a 5% commission of $10, cut it in half ($5) then move back a decimal place ($.50).  With bigger denominations, just drop a zero.  To calculate 5% commission of $100, cut it in half ($50) then drop a zero ($5).

5% of $5 is $0.25
5% of $25 is $1.25
5% of $100 is $5.00

5% of $5 — $0.25                           5% of $55 — $2.75
5% of $15 — $0.75                           5% of $60 — $3.00
5% of $20 — $1.00                           5% of $65 — $3.25
5% of $25 — $1.25                           5% of $70 — $3.50
5% of $30 — $1.50                           5% of $75 — $3.75
5% of $35 — $1.75                           5% of $100 — $5.00
5% of $40 — $2.00                           5% of $125 — $6.25
5% of $45 — $2.25                           5% of $150 — $7.50
5% of $50 — $2.50                           5% of $200 — $10.00

Note: The house rounds up on uneven bets.  The true 5% commission on a $1 bet is $0.05, but if the casino does not keep nickels in the rack, they would just take the next possible denomination (typically $0.25) as the commission.

Also note, as a courtesy, the house does not charge a commission on dealer tokes.
